The Publications Division is responsible for creating and managing a rich library of resources designed to inform and empower the organization's stakeholders. It oversees the TKI publication portfolio, Performance Magazine, and fulfills on-demand research studies requests for clients from within and outside the ecosystem. It is also responsible for handling smartkpis.com, an online platform focused on performance measurement. The platform provides a wide range of high-quality Key Performance Indicator (KPI) examples tailored to various professional contexts where KPIs are utilized.
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join us as the Head of Publications within our Publications Division. The primary purpose of this role is to strategically lead and manage the organization's publications to effectively disseminate valuable research and knowledge to stakeholders, maximizing impact and reach through innovative strategies and a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
1. Research
- Develop and implement the research strategy for publications in alignment with the organization’s broader goals.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of researchers to achieve high-quality and impactful research outputs for publications.
- Coordinate and oversee research projects for publications from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Ensure the quality, integrity, and relevance of all research outputs and data used in publications.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify interdisciplinary research opportunities that can inform publications and foster synergy across teams.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging research methodologies relevant to the organization's publications.
- Manage the research budget for publications effectively, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
2. Publications
- Provide strategic leadership for the development and enhancement of all publications (print and digital).
- Develop and implement publication policies, editorial standards, and production guidelines to ensure consistency and quality.
- Lead the development of new publication ideas, review and approve concepts, and guide their implementation.
- Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of publications, coordinating across relevant teams.
- Maintain an up-to-date internal repository of publications and ensure accessibility on relevant platforms.
- Analyze readership and client data to refine content strategies and optimize engagement for publications.
3. Publishing
- Oversee the end-to-end publishing process for all formats, including editing, design, SEO, and distribution.
- Manage relationships with external publishing partners, authors, freelancers, vendors, and service providers.
- Lead/Coordinate with the Chief Editor and Product Manager for flagship publications (e.g., Performance Magazine).
- Coordinate the development and execution of marketing and promotional campaigns for publications with the Marketing team.
- Set the editorial calendar for webinars and interviews, identify speakers, and oversee event planning.
- Ensure compliance with copyright laws, ethical publishing standards, and industry regulations.
4. Management
- Lead and inspire the publications staff team, providing clear direction, mentorship, and professional development.
- Oversee editorial and operational systems, ensuring efficient workflows and continuous improvement.
- Manage budgeting, financial forecasting, and resource planning for all publication projects.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with Research, Marketing, Sales, IT, and Customer Engagement to support publication efforts.
- Provide leadership and oversight to technical writers, editors, and researchers involved in publications.
- Monitor and report performance indicators for the Publications Department.
- Increase the contribution of the Publications Department to total revenues.
- Create reports and participate in regular meetings with the COO.
Educational background requirements
- Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, Business Administration, or a subject matter relevant to the organization's core research areas.
- Preferred: Master's degree in a related field to further enhance strategic thinking, research acumen, or management skills.
Requirements:
- Significant experience (minimum 5 years) in the publishing industry, with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience (at least 3 years) in a leadership or management role within a publications department, research organization, academic institution, or related sector.
- Proven experience in research management, preferably related to the business environment.
- Experience working with researchers and understanding the research lifecycle.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Flexibility and adeptness at multitasking within a fast-paced working environment.
- Keen attention to detail, ensuring thorough cross-checking for accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Cultural competence and experience working with diverse teams, demonstrating an understanding and appreciation of different cultural perspectives.
- Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
